Difference between SA516 Gr.70 Steel Plate and SA516 GR.60 Steel Plate
2025-12-04

SA516 GR.60 Steel Plate VS SA516 Gr.70 Carbon Steel Plate

SA516 GR.60 Steel Plate compared to its counterpart, the SA516 Gr.70 Steel Plate. It is stronger and can support a greater amount of weight before breaking.

An iron, chromium, nickel, and molybdenum alloy with a yield strength of 70,000 psi is used to make A516 GR.70 steel plates. It is employed in various building industry sectors, most notably the auto sector. Iron, chromium, nickel, and manganese alloy with a yield strength of 60,000 psi is used to make A516 GR.60 steel plate. Due to its high tensile strength, immunity to corrosion, and weldability (it can withstand temperatures of up to 2200°F), it is also employed in the construction sector.

As a result of its high chromium concentration and low carbon content, the A516 GR.70 steel plate is perfect for use in engines and other high-pressure or severe applications.

A516 GR.60 has higher carbon content than A516 GR.70 and has lower chromium content than A516 GR.70; it is, therefore, less resistant to corrosion than A516 GR.70 but still offers good resistance to oxidation when exposed to air at atmospheric pressure (approximately 14 psi).

Applications of A516 Gr.70 Steel Plate and A516 GR.60 Steel Plate

GR.70 A516 Steel Plate
One of the most popular grades of high-strength, low-alloy steel used in construction is A516 GR.70 steel plate. Boilers, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, boilers, and furnaces are the main applications for A516 GR.70 steel. Additionally, it possesses outstanding toughness qualities, good toughness characteristics, good oxidation resistance, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance.

GR.60 A516 Steel Plate
Due to its high strength and excellent ductility qualities, the A516 GR.60 steel plate is a type of low-alloy grade steel frequently used in boiler building. Boilers, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels are the main applications for A516 GR.60 steel, which also offers good resistance to oxidation, wear, corrosion, toughness, and outstanding toughness properties.
