Difference Between A537 Class 1 plate and Class 2 plate

A537 Class 1 plate is normalized and Class 2 plate is quenched and tempered. A537 carbon steel plate offers greater tensile strength than ASTM A516. A537 plate is commonly used in Oil & Gas and Petrochemical industries.

Application Differences Between A537 Class 1 and Class 2 Plates

ASTM A537 Class 1

ASTM A537 Class 1 carbon steel plates are engineered to be used in pressure vessel applications.

The material is a normalised steel which is heat treated and as a consequence displays greater yield and tensile strength than the more standard ASTM A516 grades. The steel is ideal for use in pressurised service both in boilers and pressure vessels and BBN Steel supplies A537 Class 1 plates to the world’s leading fabricators who in turn serve the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical industry.

We can supply ASTM A537 Class 1 plates from stock or directly from the mill. We also offer an in house profiling service where the material can be cut to the size or shape you require.

ASTM A537 Class 2

ASTM A537 Class 2 steel is a higher yield and tensile strength material used in the fabrication of pressurised vessels and steel boilers.

The steel includes the alloying of carbon, manganese and silicon and is heat treated using the quenched and tempered method which gives the material its residual strength. Sourced by the world’s leading fabricators, ASTM A537 Class 2 is a material used extensively by the oil, gas and petrochemical industry.
