The Lixiang i8 continues the MEGA family design language, creating a distinctive style that sets it apart from existing extended-range SUVs. The front fascia adopts a design similar to that of the MEGA, with prominent hood lines that reinforce a sense of power, while retaining the iconic star-ring light signature. At the rear, the design draws inspiration from the L9, featuring a full-width linear light strip and a roof-mounted spoiler, with the “i8” badge positioned on the lower right corner of the tailgate.

The Lixiang i8 offers five exterior colors and, for the first time, introduces a two-tone body design. The black version features a full black package, including matching exterior mirrors, black window trim, and black-silver two-tone wheels.

The side profile incorporates multiple aerodynamic optimizations: standard low-drag wheels (with optional designs available), hidden door handles, and a seamless, integrated curve between the hood and windshield. Thanks to these elements, the vehicle achieves an impressive drag coefficient of 0.218, leading its class.

Dimensions of Lixiang i8

In terms of dimensions, the Lixiang i8 measures 5,085/1,960/1,740 mm (length/width/height) with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm. For comparison, the Lixiang L8 measures 5,080/1,995/1,800 mm with a wheelbase of 3,005 mm, giving the i8 a slight advantage in wheelbase.

A major highlight of the i8 is its intelligent driving assistance system, built on Lixiang’s next-generation MindVLA architecture. In terms of hardware, it adopts Hesai’s latest ATX lidar, which is smaller yet more powerful: it offers a maximum detection range of 300 meters, supports up to 256-line scanning, and delivers significantly improved resolution. This works in tandem with NVIDIA’s Drive AGX Thor-U intelligent driving chip, which provides up to 700 TOPS of single-chip computing power—and up to 2,000 TOPS when operating with FP4 precision in the future.

The key innovation of the MindVLA system is the integration of visual-language-behavior large-model technology, enabling it to function as an intelligent driving assistant that naturally communicates with users and accurately understands driving intentions. This makes the system feel like a professional driver who can comprehend human language, delivering a more natural human-vehicle interaction experience.

All models come standard with lidar hardware, but offer two differentiated advanced driving assistance systems:

• AD Pro: powered by the Horizon J6M chip, supporting high-speed NOA navigation-assisted driving, with active safety performance comparable to the high-end version.
• AD Max: powered by the NVIDIA Thor-U chip, supporting full-scenario NOA navigation-assisted driving, and upgradable via OTA to access additional advanced features enabled by the VLA large model (specific implementations subject to official confirmation).

2+2+2 Six-Seat Layout

The Lixiang i8 adopts a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, made possible by its pure electric platform with a fully flat floor design. The front seats support large reclining angles and come with electric adjustment and memory functions. The passenger seat includes a “boss button” for rear passenger adjustment. The center console integrates a 50W wireless charging pad and a large storage compartment, with an optional cooling/heating box below.

In the second row, the right-side seat is a zero-gravity seat with 16-way electric adjustment, heating/ventilation/massage functions, and memory settings. The new wraparound seat design enhances backrest height and cushion length. The second-row door sill height is 401 mm, the door opening height is 840 mm, paired with 900 mm of legroom and a 350 mm seat height, greatly improving entry and exit convenience. The second row also features a 21-inch electric folding entertainment screen, voice-controlled for opening and closing, along with dual fold-down tables for stability and practicality.

The third row is equally impressive, offering 875 mm of legroom and a 333 mm seat height—comparable to the second row of a typical five-seat SUV. These seats include three-stage heating and electric backrest adjustment, with independent controls on both sides. In six-seat mode, the trunk provides 565 mm of depth, while optimized side windows ensure visibility for all three rows.

Power system 

Power comes from a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, with the front motor producing 150 kW and the rear motor producing 250 kW, for a combined output of 400 kW and a top speed of 180 km/h. The i8 is the first to adopt a self-developed silicon carbide drive motor and comes standard with an air suspension system that supports ride height adjustment.

The Lixiang i8 is equipped with a 5C high-rate ternary lithium battery pack, available in two capacities: 90.1 kWh and 97.8 kWh, corresponding to a CLTC range of 670 km and 720 km, respectively. The pack supports 5C ultra-fast charging technology and, when paired with Lixiang’s self-built 5C ultra-fast charging stations, can replenish 500 km of range in just 10 minutes.
