BV DH36 High Strength Shipbuilding Steel Plate

BV DH36 is a high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) shipbuilding steel plate approved by Bureau Veritas (BV) for marine structures, known for its excellent toughness, weldability, and resistance to harsh marine conditions, used in ship hulls, offshore platforms, and structural components. It offers good strength (around 355 MPa yield strength) with enhanced impact toughness, making it ideal for critical parts requiring high performance in saline environments, often supplied normalized or pretreated.

What is BV DH36 Steel ?

BV DH36 is a high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) shipbuilding steel plate approved by Bureau Veritas (BV) for marine structures, known for its excellent toughness, weldability, and resistance to harsh marine conditions, used in ship hulls, offshore platforms, and structural components. It offers good strength (around 355 MPa yield strength) with enhanced impact toughness, making it ideal for critical parts requiring high performance in saline environments, often supplied normalized or pretreated.

Key Characteristics:

  • Grade: DH36 (D = Deep/Toughness, H = High Strength, 36 = 360 MPa minimum yield strength).
  • Classification: High-strength structural steel for marine applications.
  • Properties: Good toughness, higher strength, good weldability, excellent processing properties, and corrosion resistance.
  • Composition: Primarily iron with controlled amounts of carbon and alloying elements (like Nb, V, Ti) for grain refinement.

Applications:

  • Ship hulls, bulkheads, decks, and hatch covers.
  • Offshore oil drilling platforms.
  • Maritime structures and other heavy-duty marine engineering.

Standards & Approvals:

  • Meets standards set by classification societies like Bureau Veritas (BV).
  • Often supplied with Mill Test Certificates (MTC) confirming properties.

Availability:

  • Supplied as plates in various thicknesses and dimensions.
  • Comes in delivery states like Normalizing or Pretreatment.
