DNV NV A500NV D500, NV E500 Steel Supplier

DNV NV A500NV D500, and NV E500 are Extra-High-Strength structural steel plates designed to meet the rigorous demands of the modern offshore industry. Certified by DNV (Det Norske Veritas), these grades offer superior load-bearing capacities for critical applications.

Featuring a minimum specified yield strength of 73 ksi (approx. 500 MPa), this series is engineered to perform under extreme mechanical stress. Combined with specified Charpy V-notch impact toughness properties, these steels are the material of choice for lightweight, high-capacity offshore structures, such as jack-up rigs and heavy-lift vessels.

Key Features

  • Extra-High Yield Strength: Delivers a minimum yield strength of 500 MPa (73 ksi), allowing engineers to design thinner sections without compromising structural integrity, significantly reducing overall vessel weight.

  • Extreme Environment Adaptability: Tailored impact toughness for various service temperatures (Grades A, D, E), ensuring resistance to brittle fracture in deep-sea or polar environments.

  • Excellent Weldability: Despite high strength levels, advanced alloying and processing (TMCP/Q&T) ensure low Carbon Equivalents (CEV/Pcm), maintaining good weldability and crack resistance.

  • Through-Thickness Ductility: Often supplied with Z-direction properties to prevent lamellar tearing in highly restrained welded joints (crucial for rack and chord assemblies).

Grade Classification & Impact Temperature

The A500, D500, and E500 grades share the same strength class but are distinguished by their impact test temperatures, suitable for different structural criticality and climate zones:

  • NV A500: For general high-stress areas (Impact test typically at 0°C).

  • NV D500: For primary structures or cold environments (Impact test at -20°C).

  • NV E500: For critical fracture-arrest components or extreme cold (Impact test at -40°C).

1) Tests are to be taken in the longitudinal direction. Normally, transverse test specimens are not required unless otherwise specified in the order. Impact tests not required when material thickness is less than 0.236 in. unless otherwise specified.

No more than one value below the specified miniminum average energy but no less than 70% of the specfied minimum average energy value.

Minimum average energy for full-size specimens. Refer to DNV Rules for sub-size specimen energy requirements.
