DNV NV A40 / D40 / E40 High-Strength Marine & Offshore Structural Steel

DNV Grades NV A40, NV D40, and NV E40 are high-strength structural steels with a minimum specified yield strength of 57 ksi and specified minimum Charpy V-notch impact toughness properties.

Applications

Typical applications include shipbuilding and mobile offshore drilling units and structures.

Key Features

  • High-Strength Performance: Delivers a minimum yield strength of 57 ksi (390 MPa), allowing for lighter yet stronger structural designs and increased vessel payload capacity.

  • Superior Impact Toughness: Custom Charpy V-notch impact properties for different climatic zones (Grades A, D, E), preventing brittle fracture in freezing marine environments.

  • DNV Certification: Fully compliant with DNV manufacturing and testing standards, ensuring complete material traceability and quality compliance.

  • Excellent Weldability & Processability: Utilizing pure steel quality and advanced heat treatment processes (such as TMCP or Normalizing) to ensure superior performance during welding and forming.

Grade Classification & Impact Temperature

While all three grades share the same strength level, they are distinguished by their impact toughness testing temperatures, catering to different service environments:

  • NV A40: Suitable for general strength structural areas (Impact test typically at 0°C).

  • NV D40: Suitable for structural areas requiring cold resistance (Impact test at -20°C).

  • NV E40: Suitable for extreme cold or high-stress critical areas (Impact test at -40°C).
